| Belfast City Council withheld funding from the cultural newspaper The
Vacuum and demanded an apology for the Council and the citizens of
Belfast. In response a special Sorry Day was held to highlight the
Council's decision. This included a double decker Sorry bus, eating
humble pie, a Sorry Santa and a big party.

6 days later, following legal advice a judicial review of the
Council's decision was requested. In January leave was given for the
case to be heard. The hearing will take place on the 30th November
at the High Court in Belfast.

Richard West, one of The Vacuum's editors, is represented by Michael
Lavery QC and Mary Higgins. The Council will seek to explain to the
court that their decision was not:
irrational
based on bias
or in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights
(in particular article 9 on freedom of thought, conscience and
religion and article 10 on freedom of expression).
